Jack Dorsey was born in 1976 to St. Louis (Missouri, USA). He has been very curious and calm since childhood, he was an ordinary American discipline boy. He was in the tennis team as a child, he loved drawing, making art and working on the computer. At the age of 13, he became interested in dispatch routing.
He made software for taxi cab companies, which worked. He has said- I was playing about how the city works, so I could see it. However, he learned so much in the game itself that later he built a worldwide company. Some people say that the idea of Twitter came while listening to taxi drivers talking. When taxi drivers used to talk among themselves, they used to talk small things – where are you now, where to go etc.

At the beginning of his career, he joined Dispatch Management Services Corp. While working there, he hacked the company’s website’s security system and mailed it to the company’s manager, explaining how to remedy that shortcoming. After this the company hired him in the information system team.
Here he learned about SMS in detail which later changed his life. In the next few years, he made taxi and ambulance car software, but after the dot-com bubble of 2000, he had to lose his job and left the job and after that he worked as a freelancer for the next 5 years. Later, Dorsey joined the Odeo company, which specialized in Internet startups.
One day, while eating Mexican fast food in the playground, he told his company’s team about the SMS service and said that we make SMS service for our company, using which employees will be able to share messages online. It took Jack and his friend two weeks to make it and twitter was ready for company internal use.
Twitter was a new idea, but a new company was not set up for it. Odeo owner Evan Williams also joined Jack Dorsey. They started working together. Here’s what Jack had to say about why he named Twitter – we saw the word Twitter and it was perfect. The literal meaning of Twitter is short communication of insignificant information and Twitter of birds. And this product was just like that.

Initially Twitter’s growth rate was very slow. In just three months of 2007, only 4 lakh tweets were sent. The turning point in the company’s popularity came in 2007 when the South by Southwest Interactive Conference took place.
Twitter employees had installed two 60-inch plasma screens in the hallways of the conference, on which Twitter messages continued to play. Hundreds of people who came to the conference kept in touch with each other by tweeting continuously. Everyone was so impressed with Twitter that the conference operator commented – We would like to thank you in 140 characters or less and that’s what we just did.

Not only was it a problem to make the company popular, there were many internal problems as well. Twitter was not a new company, but was formed by restructuring the Audio company. As Dorsey rose above the rest of the staff after becoming CEO, the morale of the rest of the staff plummeted. This hurt the ambitions of the co-founders.
Even when Twitter started becoming famous, the difficulties kept coming, they just changed their appearance. The traffic of Twitter was increasing day by day at quadruple speed. It was getting difficult to handle him. Servers were crashing every day. The ship was not sinking, but was moving badly.
The turning point in the company’s growth came when Union Square Ventures invested $5 million in it. Till then Jack was doing this work as a hobby, but it was only after the investment that he became serious about its business prospects. Dorsey himself has said – When the financing happened for the first time, then I went through my nose. Initially, the goal of Twitter was not to earn revenue, but to increase the number of subscribers. Twitter’s motto was growth first, income later. As of 2011, investors had invested more than $57 million in Twitter.
